I should have posted this yesterday, but i was too busy. I’ll recap though.
At about midnight on christmas eve, my sister asked if i wanted to open my presents. Of course i jumped at the chance!!!!!!!
Well i got a bracelet, a computer chair, a microphone for
A box of shower stuff, scrubbers, a reed defuser, a bottle of oil for the defuser, House season 5, and bottle of body lotion.
I had a really great day. The chair, microphone and DVD were given to me earlier, but i thought i’d mention them anyway.
Also, my friends gave me their presents much earlier too. My friend from college gave me a bracelet, little bear, and Ormanie white diamonds, which smells gorgious, and my other friend gave me a perfume called Lulu. So i’ll be smelling really sweet. Currently though, i use the diamonds.
Thanks to everyone who got me presents, both on christmas and earlier. Love them.
So what did you all get?
Have a happy christmas, well what’s left of it, or if you’re like me, a good boxing day.
I read this a couple of years ago, but couldn’t find it until now. It isn’t for my association, but i thought it was cute!!!!!!
So thanks to the author of this blog!!!!!!!!
A Christmas Story: Guide Dog Style
‘Twas the night before Christmas and the kennels were still,
with most dogs now asleep having eaten their fill.
The Labradors sprawled out, quite snug in their beds,
while visions of ANYTHING edible danced in their heads.
And the Goldens and Shepherds curled up on the floor,
some twitched in their sleep and some even did snore.
The dog food was stacked in the feed room with care,
in hopes that a trainer soon would be there.
On the window ledge, one of the kennel cats lay,
surveying the lawn at the end of this day.
Something was different, that little cat knew.
Tonight something would happen, it had to be true.
For that day as the workers had left to go home,
They’d wished Merry Christmas! before starting to roam.
The dogs had noticed it to during this past week’s walks,
the trainers seemed just that much happier and eager to talk.
In the mall where they worked through the maze of people and stores,
there were decoration and music and distractions galore!
Most dogs pranced along without worry or fear,
but some balked at the man on the sleigh and those fake looking deer.
The cat was almost asleep too when he first heard the sound,
a whoosh through the air and a jingle around.
It reminded him of a dog’s collar when the animal shook,
but this sound kept on growing so he’d better go look.
From the ceiling there came a faint sort of thunk,
as the kennel cat climbed to the highest pile of junk.
Once before people had worked on the roof,
and come down through the trap door to a chorus of “Woooof!”
But the dogs still were quiet, all sleeping so sound,
as this man dressed in red made his way right on down.
He patted the cat as he climbed past his spot,
then made his way right to the trainers’ coffee pot.
A shepherd sat up, not fully awake,
then a Golden followed her with a mighty loud shake.
That did it! All the dogs sprang to life with loud noise.
In spite of the din, the old man kept his poise.
He filled the pot full and it started to brew,
then he pulled up a chair and took in the view.
Dogs all around him, so carefully bred,
he knew well their jobs, the blind people they led.
Some had stopped barking and looked at him now,
while others delighted in their own deafening howl.
Laying a finger in front of his lips,
the jolly old man silenced the excitable yips.
“You all may not know me, but I’m Santa Claus,”
the old man smiled and took a short pause.
While he filled up his mug with hot liquid and cream,
“I’ve always wanted to stop here. It’s been one of my dreams.”
The cat had climbed down and was exploring Santa’s sack.
“Yes, little kitty, that’s an empty pack.”
Santa smiled as he drank and looked at those eyes,
deep brown ones and gold ones held wide in surprise.
Some of these dogs, he’d seen just last year,
in their puppy homes, cute and full of holiday cheer.
He’d seen the effects of a pup on the tree,
but now they were here at the school, just waiting to be.
“I didn’t bring you presents or bones just to chew.
I’ll tell you something better, what you are going to do.”
“You all will work hard and the trainers will share,
both praise and correction, gentle and fair.”
“You’ll go lots of places and face big scary things.
You’ll ride buses and subways and hear fire sirens ring.”
“Cars will drive at you but you will stand strong,
not moving into danger, not moving toward wrong.”
“And then just when you think that this trainer’s the best,
the kindest, and funnest person, toss away all the rest,”
“That trainer will begin to ignore you and give you away,
handing your leash over despite your dismay.”
“Now the person who pets you and feeds you will be
a blind person. That’s a person who can’t see.”
” This man or this woman may see just a tad,
but their view’s missing parts or the focus is bad.”
“So you, well trained dogs, will act as their eyes.
You will work as a team and discover the size”
“Of this great world we live in, because you will go
a million new places with this person, you know.”
Santa sipped at his coffee and looked over the brood,
knowing what he had to say next might sound kind of rude.
“Not all of you will make it and become canine guides.
Your time here isn’t wasted though. You won’t be cast aside.”
“Some of you will be drug dogs and some will find bombs.
Some will become pets in a home with a dad and a mom.”
“All these things are important. People wait on long lists,
to receive such good dogs as you, the school folks insist.”
The last drop of coffee had gone into his cup
as Santa turned, smiling at each wide eyed pup.
“The best gift of all is to give something back.
That’s why there’s nothing for you all inside of my pack.”
Draining his mug, Santa went to each pen,
and petted and scratched each dog again and again.
“Now next year and many more years after that,
you all will give gifts wherever you’re at.”
“You might lick a hand that’s had a bad day,
Or notice a car and step out of the way.”
“You might help catch a crook or discover some loot,
Or just bring some joy to a tired old man in a funny red suit.”
“Your master will love you and treat you with care.
In return, your training and trust will always be there.”
After the last dog had been petted and soothed,
Santa put away the coffee pot and made ready to move.
Up the ladder he rose to the door high above,
with a smile and a wave as he slipped on his gloves.
And all the dog ears were pricked as he disappeared out of sight.

I have discovered how to upload
For my article i mentioned in my last entry. This is thanks to her recommending
Which i love!!!!! Especially the Wizzard, and the way you can log in with your open ID!!!!!
So hopefully here is the link to where it is on Sendspace.
I think i will keep my sendspace account in case i need to use it again.
By the way, love the wizzard and it’s accessibility!!!
I still haven’t got the audio uploaded that i promised in
My last entry
Mainly because i don’t know how to do it lol. Any ideas?
That’s not the main topic of this post lol.
As you know, i am heavily involved in
Group. We are having a conference in February, and i have been asked to do a 5 minute presentation for it on my experiences of being visually impaired, and what i have got from eye matter and that, and how i got into it.
Thing is, i’m not sure how to start it. How would you start a presentation for a conference? There are going to be alot of very important people there, like the people we got funding from for the project and MPS and stuff.
So any tips for doing this kind of presentation? I need to have my first draft of it done for January, as that is when the next meeting is.
Thanks so much for your help.
Here’s me reading the article. Enjoy!!!!!!!!! Sorry it was so late.
Hope this works.
How do you actually insert a sound file? Not sure how to do this. *i thought it would be easier than i thought*.
Lol i got this from an email. It was just sent to me.
Warning:this is adult content, so don’t say i didn’t warn you.
Scottish Sheep Farmer
A Scotsman buys several sheep, hoping to breed them for wool.
After several weeks, he notices that none of the sheep are getting pregnant, and phones a vet for help.. The vet tells him that he should try artificial insemination.
The farmer doesn’t have the slightest idea what this means but, not wanting to display his ignorance, only asks the vet how he will know when the sheep are pregnant. The vet tells him that they will stop standing around and instead will lie down and wallow in the grass when they are pregnant.
The man hangs up and gives it some thought. He comes to the conclusion that artificial insemination means he has to impregnate the sheep himself.
So, he loads the sheep into his Land Rover, drives them out into the
woods, has sex with them all, brings them back then goes to bed.
Next morning, he wakes and looks out at the sheep. Seeing that they are all still standing around, he deduces that the first try didn’t take, and loads them in the Land Rover again. He drives them out to the woods, bangs each sheep twice for good measure, brings them back, and goes to bed exhausted.
Next morning, he wakes to find the sheep still just standing around.
“Try again.” he tells himself, and proceeds to load them up, and drive them out to the woods. He spends all day shagging the sheep and upon returning home, falls knackered into bed.
The next morning, he cannot even raise himself from the bed to
look out of the window. He asks his wife to look, and tell him if the
sheep are lying in the grass.
“No,” she says, “They’re all in the Land Rover, and one of them is beeping the horn.”
Tonight was the christmas dinner organised by one of the clients at
The Cedar Foundation
Which was great!!!!!!!!
I got picked up at about half 6. My friend who was going, said that her husband could take me, since she was going too, and we were both going to the same place. It made more sense, rather than me getting our local transport scheme.
We went to a place called the Countrymans. We were all in a room of our own, which was good. The christmas spirit was really up, as there were crackers at our tables, and party poppers, and such.
About 10 minutes after we arrived, our orders started coming.
For starters, i had Vegetable soup, with a roll. Can you tell i like it? Since that was all i had for lunch at
Anyway, for the main course, i had Turkey and ham, with all the trimmings, except Yorkshire Puddings. It was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!
After, i had a gorgious Pavlova with cream. It was yum!!!!!! The perfect end to a lovely meal!!!!!!!!!!!!
About 10 minutes after, we did a secret santa thing. We each had braught our presents to the dinner, and they were all put into a big sack. I got a beautiful bag with a pair of gloves!!!!!! It was lovely!!!!!! Whoever got me it, thanks.
Secret santas are much better!!!! Plus they are fun!!!!! It means that nobody is left out, and everyone doesn’t have to waist time buying every single person in the country!!!!!!! Plus it’s really exciting knowing what you might get, and wondering who has got you what!!!!!!!!
After that, some woman came to talk to us about setting up our own social group.
The craic was 90!!!!!!!! I would like to say a huuuuuuuuge thanks to Morene for being great and organising it. Also thank god a certain other person wasn’t there. There is this person who is really annoying, and likes to make sure that i am alright. The only problem is that he makes false accusations, and doesn’t like me being independent. Thank god he didn’t ruen our night!!!!!!!
Thanks again Morene. All of the group, in fact, were really awsum!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks guys!!!!!!
I love the way the social calendar increases before christmas. I’m off to a panto tomorrow night, then next Friday i will hopefully be able to go to a christmas party thingie at Cedar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would rather do that than sitting in the house!!!!!!
Well today was our anual christmas lunch with the
We have it every year as a sort of thank you from Cedar.
Anyway, i was due to be picked up at about 10:30. Well that time came and went, and it was about 11 o’clock when i thought that maybe it had been canceled, or else i had been forgotten about. I rang up the Cedar foundation, and found out that i was just going to be collected lol.
I was picked up at about 11:15, and off we went to pick up another volunteer, before heading up to the restaurant. We got there at about 12 o’clock, with plenty of time to spear, since the meal wasn’t due to start until half 12.
There were about 15 of us all together. Most of them were from the main branch of Cedar.
Anyway, i had Soup and a sandwich. My sandwich came out first, which was a bit weird. Me and another volunteer got ours mixed up though, as his sandwich was bacon, while mine was ham lol. And the amount of red onion that was in it!!!!! I had to fish through it lol to get it all lol. Apart from that, it was nice.
For dessert, i had a chocolate tart, with cream and an orange sauce. The tart was so hard that i had to use a fork and knife lol!!!!!!!!!
While at the lunch, i met a person who teaches JAWS, so we got chatting about all that wonderful technology and that. She told me that there is a demonstration day in January for JAWS 11 at the main branch of Cedar, and she says that she will get me an invite lol. We had a good chat about how cool JAWS was and what we both did.
We were getting ready to go at about 2 o’clock, when this woman i was talking to about the JAWS was like “You must come over to our place to see around it!!!” We said yes, as this was only across the road.
I got to see all around their IT sweet, which is much bigger than our place. In fact, the whole building is bigger lol.
We finally went to the kitchen, where i met an old school friend!!!!!!!! I was introduced to her, and i thought “I recognise that voice”, and sure enough, it was my friend from school!!!!!! Me and her had a good weee chinwag.
All in all, it was a good day. We went home after talking to my friend.
I am so glad that i’m still kept on as a volunteer. I hope that some day i will find a paid job, but who knows. Thanks guys at Cedar for being so helpful and such good craic!!!!!!!
